Experiment DARPO

DARPO (Desert Dust and Biomass Burning Aerosols over Portugal) is a Eurpoean project for the investigation of desert aerosol particles transported from the African Sahara to Portugal and for the investigation of forest fire aerosols created inside Portugal.
The aircraft (FA 20) - provided and operated by the Deutsches Zentrum fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) - will fly over Morocco and central Portugal up to 10 flight hours between 18 May and 7 June 2006.
The experiment is closely connected to the German SAMUM experiment (http://www.tropos.de/samum) which will take place in May/June in Morocco.
